Corseul, Brittany: Saturday 26 April
Having worked on technical aspects of her sprint since her last race cyclist Sabine Minchinton-Gilley who rides for CC Plancoet, & is a member of the JCA Youth Academy, was able to turn the tables on her adversary who has beaten her in all races this season to take 3rd place in the Sprint competition. Unfortunately it was not Sabine’s day in the road race where the relentless wind combined with a ferocious hail shower split the field before the start of a climb on the back end of the 5km course. Some riders in the peloton were unable to hold on to wheels in front of them thus causing gaps to appear. Sabine was able to bridge a couple of moves but the conditions beat her in being able to go with the deciding break; the gap widened proving difficult to make headway which then resulted in protecting her position. She was able to claw back two riders in the last few metres to the finish line having climbed the hill, which varied from 5% to 4% over the 800m distance, with determination & ever improving technique. Finishing 4th on general classification was personally disappointing but very advantageous with the experience gained.
